Pecorino, Garlic & Herb Scones - LeMoine Family Kitchen (2024)

I am a scone loving fool. As in, I seriously have a major addiction right now with scones both savory and sweet. Having a single container of buttermilk led to 8, yes 8 batches of scones! Blueberry, Citrus, Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Gruyere and Chives and these Pecorino, Garlic & Herb Scones! These scones right here just fantastic! The perfect texture and crumble… and the flavor is so so good!!

Scones are so easy to make and heres the great thing, when you have a great base recipe it is so easy to make an incredible variety both sweet and savory with just a few tweaks. For these Pecorino, Garlic & Herb Scones are simply flour, a small amount of sugar, baking powder, butter, buttermilk, an egg, pecorino cheese and garlic and herb seasoning. I mean the possibilities are endless with so many fabulous cheeses, seasonings and herbs that can be mixed to create your ideal scone.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose unbleached flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup pecorino romano {extra for sprinkling on top}
  • 1.5 Tbsp garlic & herb seasoning
  • 6 Tbsp cold butter, diced
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your event o 400 degrees.
  2. Add the flour, sugar and baking powder to a food processor and pulse a few times to combine.
  3. Add in the butter and pulse until the butter is combined and the size of peas.
  4. Pour the dry mixture into a bowl. Stir in the pecorino cheese, garlic & herb seasoning and some fresh cracked pepper.
  5. In a measuring cup mix the buttermilk and egg. Add to the dry mixture and stir until mostly combined.
  6. Pour out onto a very lightly floured surface working the dough just a couple times to get it combined, You want to make sure not to over mix!! The texture will not be spot on if you over work it.
  7. Form the dough into a circle by hand about 1 inch high. Cut into 6-8 even triangles.
  8. Place onto a lined baking sheet, brush with the melted butter, sprinkle with some more pecorino and a little cracked pepper. Bake for about 20-22 minutes or until golden brown.
