This easy scone recipe is very basic and you just might be surprised at how well they turn out. Made with regular flour and other ingredients you probably already have on hand.
One of the things I like about making scones is that you need to work quickly and lightly with the dough. This matches up perfectly with my lack of patience personality.
This easy scone recipe does have a simple lemon glaze but you can skip it. They are delicious on their own. We had them with some of the fresh strawberry jam I made and boy were they good. However, I think they'd be great with a touch of butter too.

How to Make Easy Scones
Mix all the dry ingredients together.
Add in cold cut up butter. This is a stick of butter cut lengthwise. Then cut again lengthwise before cutting into little pieces.
Use a pastry cutter, some forks, or your fingers to work the butter in just until it starts to get a crumbly texture. (not long)
Add the egg and milk and stir just to bring the dough together. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. (It should be sticky)
Roll out the dough about 1 inch thick.
Use a cookie or biscuit cutter to cut out the scones. Just push it down and lift it up. Do not twist the cutter.
Dip the cutter into some flour each time to make the best scones.
Place the scones on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake them until they are golden brown. Look at those lovely distinct layers!
If you want a little extra flavor you can mix some powdered sugar and lemon juice to make a lemon glaze that you drizzle over top of the scones.
However, they are pretty good as is. In fact, they were delicious right from the oven.
Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack before storing them in an airtight container.
That is if you can keep from eating them all first.
I can't wait to try making these again. Next time perhaps I'll fold in some berries, such as raspberries, or make blueberry scones. How about chocolate chips for a sweet treat? Or some cheddar and chives for a savory scone. I don't think you can go wrong with this one.
