A God-sent Love Letter.

Why the Marginalian aka Brain Pickings, is my most Treasured Website. (2)

I feel insanely upset that nobody ever told me about this website. I hate myself for not discovering the Marginalian earlier. This digital archive is my Life in many ways.

It is maintained by a lady who has simply fascinated me beyond words. One rarely gets the chance to know women of such fierce dedication, liveliness, and childlike wonder in their eyes.

Maria Popova is one of my heroes on Earth. I admire her freaking too much. I dearly wish I could go for a walk with her and talk to her endlessly. What a blessing it would be to be infected by her Curiosity, her Love, her Inquiry into the Great.

Maria Popova is a Bulgarian-born, American-based blogger, author, writer, poet, and founder of the glittering, magical emporium of ideas. As Prof. Richard Feynman says about the joy of finding things out, every newsletter I read makes me bow to her and express my deepest gratitude.

To thank her for benevolently taking such an exhaustive task of finding forgotten love letters, unheard titles, beautiful poems, and food for scientific curiosity.

Maria’s digital archive spans a blog (500,000 visitors a month), a newsletter (150,000 subscribers), and a Twitter feed (263,000 followers). Her output, which she calls a “human-powered discovery engine for interestingness,” has attracted an eclectic group of devotees including the novelist William Gibson, the singer Josh Groban, the comedian Drew Carey, the neuroscientist David Eagleman, the actress Mia Farrow and the Twitter founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams.

How Maria Popova speaks to me poignantly through her work:

  1. Celebration of Universe as Whole: A writer, a poet, a novelist, or a filmmaker is always considered an idealist. His perception of the world never seems to be accepted, his world is treated as utopian, far from Truth.

I too as a kid was swayed by this misconception and feared if I wrote poems, or read novels, one might assume that I was escaping from reality. I am a coward to not deliver my duties well.

It always disturbed me and scared me, and as a result, I would never read with complete surrender to the magnanimous spell of a book. But Maria Popova changed my center from Fear to Love towards everything and allowed me to see the world as a whole, inseparable. Not a fragmented entity.

In Maria’s newsletter, Every aspect of life is celebrated, every field of work respected, and becomes a medium for Self-growth.

2. Scientific Inquisitiveness: Especially if a woman writes or reads, it's largely taken for granted. Her strength is subdued, it never gets accepted as part of her being, in the process of becoming Human. It is hardly believed that she can ever rejoice in scientific amusem*nts, experiments, or facts.

But Maria has challenged them to change their rotten belief, she is in utter joy while talking about Galileo, Albert Einstein, and Carl Sagan. She reveres Science so much that I believe every girl must read her newsletters: her affair with science, the joy of experimenting, rationalizing, and critical thinking.

One would never feel small before the opposite gender and take on the initiative to know the world as a complete human.

3. Merrymaking with Reading and Writing: On Wednesdays, on Sundays I wait for her newsletters as a newborn looks for her mother's chest. The peace he gets in sulking at his mother's breast, I feel that serene happening while going through her newsletters.

They are visually so aptly designed, that the user experience is top-notch, the colors, and the vibrancy you feel while reading her are like traversing through an online museum. Her writing is lucid, mellifluous, precise, rich in enough facts, and brimming with Life.

We all must thank her for her labor of love, which she so openheartedly decided to share with all. She has made me addicted to outstanding writing and world-class reading, now nothing cheap appeals to me. I owe you soo much Maria Popova.

4. She has not left a single Subject uncovered: The Marginalian is so well designed to suit everyone’s taste. Every subject has an infinite number of articles.

All subjects including Culture, History, Philosophy, Evolutionary biology, Astronomy, Design, Politics, Games, AI, and Blockchain are available. She is a living Library to me.

She shows the highest potential of humans in work, where she through her small life has touched upon diverse subjects with so much beauty, and so much grace, that it almost feels impossible to believe how a single human can live a bountiful full of life amongst greatest of minds, reading their work and bringing it to common masses with deep love and affection.

5. Joy of being Human: To read Maria Popova is to believe in the hardships, struggles, and journeys that each of us has to take to come closer to life and know what it means to be human.

She through examples of the best minds in every field of work, has made me open to the world of the highest possibilities, it feels insanely magical to know scientists, writers, philosophers, and poets, and to talk to them as part of my larger and more sacred family.

Dear Maria Popova, there is no possible way to meet you in person. But this is a small thank-you note for the color, splendor, beauty, and joy you have filled in my life.

Unlike most people who are swayed by instant gratification with no sense of purpose, you make me seek love for the highest.

Through the brilliance of your craft, I spend my time with people who might be long dead but with whom I share unfathomable Love that is as indispensable as breathing. As 2023 marks its end I am grateful to discover you and through you many giants, who I would have never known otherwise. I make it a promise to read all your articles completely.

THANK YOU MARIA POPOVA!!

Whenever I doubt if I am capable of Reading, Learning, and Knowing such diverse subjects I will think about you my Maria, your labor of love. It will stop me from giving any excuse, make time for all that I love, and give back to the community generously.

If you enjoy reading my work, please help it reach other readers with 50+ claps.👏
